Free Zumba Gold Class
Zumba Gold combines dance steps with Latin rhythms for a moderate cardio workout as well as toning and stretching to help range of motion and flexibility. A free introductory session will be offered on Thursday, Sept. 2, from 1 to 2 p.m. Ongoing classes begin Sept. 23, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Register online or call 760-602-4650 for more information.
New Book Club Forming
Beginning Monday, Sept. 13, a book club will meet on the 2nd Monday of each month from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Carlsbad Senior Center. September's selection is Wuthering Heights, by Emily Bronte, followed in October by The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo, by Stieg Larsson. Kathy Ragland, a retired Carlsbad City reference librarian, will be the group leader. Future title selections will be chosen when the book club meets.
Fall Prevention Seminar
Judy Condie, a physical therapist and Board-Certified Geriatric Specialist, will speak about fall prevention, and highlight how one is able to reduce many of the risks of falling. Monday, Sept. 20, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
Fall Prevention Awareness Fair
Healthcare and safety professionals will assess each participant for their risk for falling. Resources and referrals to appropriate professionals will be discussed and a profile generated that can be taken to your doctor. Judy Condie, along with Certified FallProof Balance and Mobility Instructor, Barbara Shaver, will demonstrate balance exercises and multi-sensory activities. The Fair will be Wednesday, Sept. 22, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.
