Crime Statistics and Maps

The City of Carlsbad Police Department reports crime according to the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting Program, a nationwide statistical effort of law enforcement agencies reporting data on crime. UCR is a standardized system, with definitions for seven main offense classifications known as Part I crimes. Part I crimes include violent crimes - - murder and non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, and property crimes - - burglary, larceny-theft and motor vehicle theft.

Index crime rates are a calculation of index crimes relative to the population. They are expressed as index crimes per 1,000 population. The number of FBI index crime per 1,000 population is a standard measure used throughout the law enforcement community.
