Community members now have a safe and convenient way to get rid of old prescription medications in Carlsbad. The need for drop-boxes arose when it was determined these medications present a risk to our community by either falling into the wrong hands or by damaging our environment through improper disposal.
- The City of Carlsbad Police and Fire departments have installed a new drop box at the city's Safety Center located at 2560 Orion Way. Members of the public may come Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and anonymously drop medications into the drop-box.
- The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department also has a drop-off program. Residents are able to drop-off pharmaceuticals anonymously 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Drop-box locations and more information on the drop-box program can be found on the San Diego County Sheriff’s website.
Please do not dispose unwanted pharmaceuticals down the toilet, this has detrimental environmental effects on recycled and treated water.
