Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the United States and is the leading cause of serious, long-term disability in the United States. Each year, approximately 795,000 people suffer a stroke. Nearly three-quarters of all strokes occur in people over the age of 65. In this free, informational seminar, family practice and geriatrics specialist, Dr. Neil Halim M.D., with Tri-City Medical Center will discuss answers to questions such as:
• How do you recognize the signs and symptoms of a stroke?
• How do you prevent and treat a stroke?
• What happens during a stroke?
• What should a bystander do during a stroke?
• Why is there a need to act fast during a stroke?
• How do you identify if you are at risk for a stroke?
• What is a transient ischemic attack (TIA)?

California Telephone Access Program (CTAP) Outreach Specialist, Sandra Lambarri Johnson, will be in the Lobby to discuss the CTAP program and explain how qualifying seniors can get a free specialized phone that can help those who are hearing, visually or mobility impaired have an easier time communicating by phone.
