Community invited to village celebration

The community is invited to a free event to celebrate the successful redevelopment of the city’s historic village, Wednesday, Oct. 28, 5 to 7:30 p.m.

Celebration activities will open with remarks by the Carlsbad City Council and a short video documentary at the Village Theatre, followed by still photography displayed at the New Village Arts Theatre and refreshments provided by local restaurants at the corner of State Street and Grand Avenue. All celebration festivities are free.

“We are happy to celebrate more than a quarter of a century of working in partnership with the  community to transform this historic area into a thriving, inviting and walkable destination for locals and visitors alike, ” said Debbie Fountain, City of Carlsbad housing and redevelopment director.  “The foundation we have put in place through the city’s redevelopment efforts will lead to continued enhancements to the village area for years to come.”

Event schedule:

5 – 6 p.m.: City Council remarks and a video documentary about the village. Carlsbad Village Theatre, 2822 State St.

6 – 7:30 p.m.: A still photography exhibit on the city’s village redevelopment efforts.New Village Arts Theatre, 2787 State St.

6 – 7:30 p.m.: Refreshments and appetizers provided by local village businesses.Parking lot at the corner of State Street and Grand Avenue.

The Village of Carlsbad is home to a diverse mix of businesses, including popular restaurants and retail stores, as well as a farmer’s market, art galleries, live theater and nightlife.    

In addition, recently the new Carlsbad Village Association (a consolidated association of the Carlsbad Village Business Association and Carlsbad Village Improvement Partnership) has created new events in the city’s village, such as Thursdays on the Coast, Spark in the Park and recently a successful outdoor movie series.
