Carlsbad firefighter recognized for exceptional public safety service
City of Carlsbad Fire Department Engineer/Paramedic Jeff Chumbley was awarded the Burn Institute’s Pamela R. Kelly Award for his exceptional contribution to fire service in the community. The Carlsbad City Council recognized Chumbley for this honor at its Oct. 20 meeting.

“The opportunity to give back to the community is why I chose a career in public safety,” said Chumbley.

Chumbley has served for six years with the City of Carlsbad and has an 18 year career in public safety.  Chumbley has been a volunteer with the Burn Institute for 14 years and has served as the chair person for numerous events and committees. For the past three years he has served as the president of the Fire Fighters Advisory Council to the Burn Institute.

Each year, the Pamela R. Kelly Award honors a member of the fire service community for continued, dedicated support and service to the Burn Institute. The award is given in memory of San Diego Fire-Rescue Department’s Fire Prevention Officer Pamela R. Kelly, who was well-known for her volunteer efforts throughout the county.

The Burn Institute is a nonprofit agency dedicated to reducing the number of burn injuries and deaths through prevention education, burn care research and burn survivor support services.
