District Election Timeline

Under the California Voting Rights Act, the City of Carlsbad was required to enact a city law (called an “ordinance”) establishing boundaries for district elections and a transition plan within 90 days of voting on a resolution of intent to make the switch. Following is the timeline.

 April 5, 2017  City receives letter alleging violation of California Voting Rights Act
May 9, 2017 
Public Meeting

City Council adopts resolution stating intention and timeline for changing to district elections. 

May 30, 2017  Public Hearing

Overview of the process and city demographics.
Gather input to be used in establishing options for district boundaries. 

 June 10, 2017
