District Election Timeline

Under the California Voting Rights Act, the City of Carlsbad must enact a city law (called an “ordinance”) establishing boundaries for district elections and a transition plan within 90 days of voting on a resolution of intent to make the switch. The following tentative timeline has been established to meet this deadline. To be notified of public meetings and hearings, please sign up for the City Council agenda email notification service.

 April 5, 2017  City receives letter alleging violation of California Voting Rights Act
May 9, 2017

City Council adopts resolution stating intention and timeline for changing to district elections. 

May 30, 2017  Public Hearing

Public hearings will take place during a City Council meeting in the City Council Chamber, 1200 Carlsbad Village Drive.
