ALARM PERMIT APPLICATION

In the mid 1980s the City of Carlsbad found it necessary to create an alarm systems ordinance. The ordinance was in response to the high number of false alarm activations requiring police response. The police department responds to more than 350 false activations per month, equating to more that 90 hours of police officer time.

There is no alarm permit application fee at this time. Please complete and submit the Alarm System Permit Application to:

City of Carlsbad
Finance Department

1635 Faraday Avenue
Carlsbad CA 92008

The alarm system ordinance allows one, penalty-free false alarm activation within a one-year period. A $30.00 penalty fee is assessed for the second false alarm activation within that one-year period and a $60.00 penalty fee is assessed for the third and subsequent false alarm activations within that one-year period. If the second and subsequent false alarm activations are the result of a panic or robbery button, a penalty fee of $60.00 is assessed and a $100.00 penalty fee is assessed for the third and subsequent panic or robbery button.

The purpose of the ordinance is to reduce the occurrence of false alarm activations, allowing our police officers to spend more time in other areas of public safety. Thank you for your cooperation. If you have any questions, please call the City's Finance Department at (760) 602-7555.
