SECTION 8 RENTAL ASSISTANCE APPLICATION PROCESSEFFECTIVE OCTOBER 1, 2005 Due to federal funding cuts, the Carlsbad Housing Agency is no longer accepting applications for the Section 8 Rental Assistance Program waiting list. Applicants currently on the waiting list for rental assistance will remain on the list. Assistance will be provided as current participants leave the program and/or when new funding is received from the federal government. The waiting list will reopen once adequate funding is available. Notice of the waiting list reopening will be done via newspaper and the media. The Carlsbad Housing Agency is accepting application transfers from other San Diego County Housing Agencies If you have applied with another San Diego County Housing Agency before September 30, 2005 AND you are currently living or working in the City of Carlsbad, our office will accept the waiting list application transfer and honor the same application date. You must contact the Housing Agency where you applied and request they send a copy of your application to our office. We can accept application transfers from San Diego County Housing Agencies ONLY. If you are living outside of San Diego County and would like to sign up for Section 8, please contact your local housing agency. Updating Waiting List InformationIt is the applicant's responsibility to notify the City of Carlsbad Housing Agency, in writing, of any changes in family composition, income, or mailing address. It is also the applicant's responsibility to respond to any request for updated information or appointment notices. Failure to comply may result in the applicant's name being removed from the Waiting List. Please use the Waiting List Update Form to update the information on your application. How The Program WorksThe Carlsbad Housing Agency administers the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program. This Rental Assistance Program assists very low-income households by paying a portion of their monthly rent. The Carlsbad Housing Agency pays the rental assistance payment directly to the Owner/Agent. Program Participants are responsible for paying their own security deposit and entering into a lease/rental agreement. The program is confidential. No one other than the Owner/Agent needs to know that you receive rental assistance. The Program allows you to rent a unit that is rent reasonable and passes minimum Housing Quality Standards. Who Is EligibleVery low-income families, households whose incomes are at or below 50% of the San Diego County Median Income, are eligible to apply for Rental Assistance. A "family" may include one adult, one or more adults with a child or children, or two or more adults sharing a residence. Applicants who live or work in the City of Carlsbad will receive first consideration. Of those local applicants, highest priority is given to extremely low-income households whose gross annual income is at or below 30% of the Median Income.
