THE COLE LIBRARY (NORTH) The Cole Library, named after the City's first Library Director Georgina Cole, re-opened on April 15, 2000 after seven months of renovation work. A new feature in the Cole Library is the Carlsbad History Room. Staff assist users in accessing archival materials all about Carlsbad's history. Another exciting new change is the remodeling of the meeting room, where the Interim Service Library was located. The Community Room, as it is now known, will be available to community groups later this year for meetings and programs, as it benefited from a wide variety of technological upgrades. In addition, the atrium area received a facelift, thanks to the generous work of Carlsbad Arboretum Foundation members. Exterior improvements to include new landscaping and signage are currently being planned. "If the City Library needed books, a chair or even an oven for its employees, founder Georgina Cole didn't hesitate digging into her own pocket and paying for the supplies herself. It was sacrifices like these and her uncanny ability to bring out the best in people that will be remembered by those who knew the feisty, no-holds-barred Cole." |
