Summer Reading Program
Held every summer from mid-June through early August. Carlsbad youth are rewarded for reading through the summer with small prizes and donations from local merchants. We also enhance their reading with theme and literature-based programs. Volunteers are essential for this program and all youth entering 6th grade in the Fall are welcome to volunteer. Our theme for Summer 2006 is "Paws, Claws, Scales & Tales".

Library Info Fair for Educators
"Parents are the child's first educators!" Held the second Saturday of October, L.I.F.E. was developed by Children's Services as a collaborative effort to improve communication between those that teach our children and those that support education through different community venues. We invite ALL educators (teachers, parents, scout leaders, librarians, PTA leaders, homeschoolers, grandparents, tutors, community volunteers) who work toward educating our county's children to attend this fun and educational day. Be sure to "Bring the Whole Family" this year -- there will be something for everyone!

Whale Art Contest
Held every year in January in celebration of the annual gray whale migration, community youth are encouraged to submit art projects related to whales. These can be in any media. Entry forms can be picked up at the Children's Reference Desk in late December and early January. An awards ceremony is held with whale-watching trip prizes from Helgren's Sportfishing of Oceanside.

Multicultural Week
Held every year in March in cooperation with the Carlsbad Arts Office, youth are invited to attend multicultural dance, theatre, puppet, and literature performances at all three Carlsbad libraries.

Children's Book Week
Held every year in November and sponsored by the Children's Book Council, the libraries celebrate with special book displays, author visits, and programs.

National Library Week
Held every year in April and sponsored by the American Library Association, the libraries promote resources available at the library and have special programs and events.
