	What is a Playaway?
	Playaway is the first self-playing digital audiobook. About the size of a cassette tape, Playaway digital audiobooks come loaded with one book and are lightweight, compact and easy-to-use. Carlsbad City Library offers fiction, non-fiction and instructional Playaway titles for adults and children.
	How long does the Playaway battery last?
	Each Playaway is pre-loaded with one standard AAA battery that should allow for six to eight hours of uninterrupted playtime.
	What headphones can I use?
	Playaway was designed with a universal headphone jack in order to allow patrons to use almost any type of headphones, speakers or mobility accessories available on the market. For hygenic reasons, the Library asks patrons to provide their own headphones.
	How does Playaway compare to audio on cassette or CD?
	Playaway is more convenient and easier to enjoy than juggling multiple CDs, cassettes or a separate player. Playaway also offers various enhanced digital features, including the ability to control the speed of the narrator's voice.
	How does Playaway compare to the digital downloads and other forms of on-the-go downloading like cell phones?
	Playaway comes pre-loaded with its digital content, so it does not require information transfer fees, subscriptions, memberships, or even an internet connection. Just plug-in your headphones and listen wherever you go.
	How do I turn on my Playaway?
	Plug in your headphones, speakers or adapter. Press the Playaway button once to power it on. The Playaway button is the center button on the bottom row, just beneath the LCD, and has the Playaway logo on it. When you're ready, press the Playaway button again and the book will begin to play.
	How do I replace the battery?
	The base of the Playaway has a battery door that can be removed, much like on a common remote control. Simply snap it off. Once it's off just replace the battery with a standard AAA battery, and snap the battery cover back in place. Each battery should allow for six to eight hours of uninterrupted playtime.
	Can patrons use Playaway in their car?
	Yes, every Playaway has a universal headphone jack that can be used with most of the commonly available car adapters on the market, including cassette adapters and FM transmitters.

FM Transmitter
The FM Transmitter connects portable music players to your car or home stereo quickly and easily. Just plug it into the headphone jack of your Playaway audiobook. Tune your car stereo to the clearest FM frequency, and enjoy your digital audiobook with full sound and convenience.

Cassette Adapter
Just plug the cable into the headphone jack of your Playaway audiobook and place the cassette in a cassette player.

Direct Connect Cable
New car audio systems have an auxiliary input that accomodates Playaways. Just connect the cable to the headphone jack of your Playaway audiobook and the auxiliary port of your car's audio system.
