GENEALOGY COLLECTION

The Genealogy Collection is one of the largest in Southern California and has a strong emphasis on the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries in the United States. The Collection includes printed books and journals, microfilm, microfiche, and CDs. To determine what items are included in the Collection, search the Carlsbad City Library Catalog. The Library has online subscriptions to Ancestry Library Edition, HeritageQuest, New England Ancestors, Footnote, and Newspaper Archive. HeritageQuest and Newspaper Archive may be accessed by Carlsbad City Library cardholders from home.

The Genealogy Collection includes United States city directories through 1881 on microfiche and microfilm, a large number of county histories in print and on microfiche, a large number of county atlases in print, and a growing collection of state censuses on microfilm. There is a small circulating collection of duplicate books.

Genealogy staff has created User Guides to assist patrons in using some of the more complex or difficult sources in the collection.

The North San Diego County Genealogical Society supports the Genealogy Collection by donating books and other materials. N.S.D.C.G.S. sponsors the following programs:

  • Business Meeting/Sharing: 2nd Tuesday of each month at 1:00 p.m. in Cole Library Community Room
