CARLSBAD CITY LIBRARY INTERNET POLICY
The Carlsbad City Library offers public access computers at its Dove and Cole locations. Software applications include word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, desktop publishing, letter writing, and scanning (Dove only). Please confirm availability of software at each location. Use of the computers and software is free. A fee applies to printing (15¢/page for black and white and 75¢/page for color).
Registration and Check-in
All users must have a Carlsbad City Library Card and read and sign an Internet and Computer User Agreement. The patron's library record will reflect that they have read and signed this agreement. All patrons must check-in and present their library card to the library staff prior to using a computer. The person using the computer must be the individual listed on the sign-up sheet as the user. Library cards are non-transferable. A one-hour time allotment is guaranteed, with up to a two-hour maximum per day on a public access computer if no one is waiting. Users should notify staff when leaving the computer.
Visitors
Visitors may use the computers for a two-week period. Visitors are defined as people who live outside San Diego County and will be in the area for no more than two weeks. Visitors are required to read and sign the Internet and Computer User Agreement.
Children
All computer users under the age of 18 must have parental consent. Children under the age of 13 must use the terminals in the Children's area. Children under the age of 12 must have a parent remain with them while they use the Internet. Children 13-18 may use Adult or Children's terminals. Adults who are supervising their child's use of the computer in a Children's area may use a terminal if one is available, with the understanding that if a child needs a computer they must relinquish their terminal. Parents are responsible for the terms of user agreement whether accompanying the child or not. Guidelines for Internet safety are available at www.safekids.com. Computers are not equipped with filtering software.
Computer Workshops
The Dove and Cole Libraries offer a number of workshops, including beginning and intermediate Internet. Please call each location for additional details.
The Dove Library Adult Computer Lab offers a number of instructional workshops, including beginning and intermediate Internet. To sign-up for a workshop, please call (760) 602-2039 or come in. The sign-up sheet is posted at the end of each month for the following month. Workshops are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Equipment Use
All users must follow the guidelines set forth in the Carlsbad City Library Internet and Computer User Agreement. Only library installed software and hardware may be used. Adding or deleting software is not permitted. Files may be saved to diskette. Diskettes may be purchased for $1.00 at the Reference Desk. Patrons may use their own diskettes after staff has run a virus scan.
Assistance
Staff is available for assistance; however, anyone using a computer is expected to have basic Windows knowledge.
Closing
The computers are logged-off by staff 15 minutes before the Library closes. A verbal notice will be given one half hour before the library closes. Users will then be advised to complete their work and necessary printing.
Reserving a Computer
Computers at Dove and Cole may be reserved up to one day in advance, either by phone or in person. Reservations are made at one-hour increments. Reservations will be held for ten (10) minutes only. If the user is late, the entire reserved time period will be forfeited.
