"CARLSBAD READS TOGETHER 2008 "

Sponsored by the Friends of the Carlsbad Library

Carlsbad City Library's fourth "Carlsbad Reads Together", a community-wide reading program, featured Alexander McCall Smith's The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency. Free events including book discussions, an evening with Alexander McCall Smith, film screenings and a concert took place throughout the month of April 2008. The Carlsbad Reads Together 2009 selection will be chosen this fall.

Carlsbad Reads Together is modeled on national reading programs designed to bring community members together and engage them in discussion about the same book at the same time.

The book chosen for Carlsbad Reads Together 2007 was Nobel Prize-winner Elie Wiesel's Night. Community members participated by reading and discussing the book and attending events highlighting Night and its themes. The book chosen for Carlsbad Reads Together 2006 was the acclaimed classic, Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, one of the most celebrated writers of the 20th century. The 2004 book selection was T.C. Boyle's The Tortilla Curtain.
