Possible Human Bones Found on Beach

On March 16, 2016 at 03:27 a.m., the City of Carlsbad Police Department received a call from a man reporting he found a possible human leg bone on the beach. The location is approximately 70 yards south of the 3000 block of the Ocean St. beach access stairwell.

While riding his bicycle on the beach, the man located a black rubber boot in the water. The man retrieved the boot and noticed what he believed to be a human leg bone inside.

Officers responded, inspected the bone and contacted the Medical Examiner’s Office. The Medical Examiner’s Office requested an officer transport the bone to their office for further inspection.

Officers searched the beach but were unable to locate any other bones or related items.

At daylight, officers conducted an additional search of the beach that included the assistance of an Oceanside Harbor Patrol boat unit.

The investigation is ongoing.
