City Hosts Carlsbad Reads Together Community Celebration and Author Talk

The City is hosting a community celebration for the 2017 Carlsbad Reads Together on Saturday, Feb. 25 beginning at 4 p.m. at the Carlsbad City Library, located at 1775 Dove Lane. The celebration includes a variety of activities for all ages that celebrate the many themes and experiences of this year’s book, Into the Beautiful North. A special Author Talk with author Luis Urrea begins at 7 p.m. Admission to all events is free.

At a Glance

Below is a lineup of the celebration’s activities:

4 p.m.

  • My Family Tree Activities in the Kids’ Area

A handful of interactive projects for families will be offered to do in the library and at home that will help you connect with your family and ancestors.


4:30 p.m.

5 and 5:45 p.m.

5 p.m.

  • Create your own Into the Beautiful North memento in the Exploration HUB
  • Bowling in the Stacks. Come and bowl for prizes in the 2nd floor non-fiction area
  • Art in the Stacks in the first floor reading area. Create your very own tin art project inspired by Mexican folk art.
  • Copies of Into the Beautiful North and other titles by Luis Urrea will be available for purchase in the library courtyard. 

7 p.m.

  • Author Talk with Luis Urrea in the Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium.

Author Luis Urrea will discuss the story behind his writing Into the Beautiful North and sign copies of his books, which will be available for purchase beginning at 5 p.m. Seating is limited and available first come, first served. Free tickets, limit two per person, will be distributed beginning at 3 p.m.
