Taxi Cab Driver Robbed by Client while Driving on Interstate 5

On March 29, at 8:58 p.m., the City of Carlsbad Police Department was called to the area of Palomar Airport Road and Paseo Del Norte regarding a disturbance between a white male adult and a taxi cab driver.

An investigation into the disturbance revealed that the taxi cab driver was reportedly robbed at gunpoint, had his vehicle vandalized and was verbally threatened by a customer while driving north on the I-5 freeway.

The white male, later identified as 26-year-old Blake Droz from San Diego, fled the area before police arrived.

Officers located Droz nearby where he ran from them.

With the assistance of the San Diego Sheriff’s Department helicopter (ASTREA) and K-9 Unit, as well as the California Highway Patrol, a perimeter was established.

During a search, Droz was pursued into the courtyard of 705 Palomar Airport Road where he was apprehended by the Sheriff’s K-9.

The Carlsbad Fire Department responded and transported Droz to an area hospital for his injuries. He was subsequently booked into Vista Detention Facility.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
