Carlsbad City Library Spring 2017 Good Life Lecture Series
The Carlsbad City Library is hosting a six-week series of lectures designed to help participants learn new skills and information for a better quality of life for themselves and their loved one. Lectures occur on Tuesdays from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. beginning April 11 in the Gowland Meeting Room at Carlsbad City Library, located at 1775 Dove Lane. Admission is free. Refreshments will be provided.

April 18 – Creative Change with Jennifer S. Mueller
Dr. Jennifer S. Mueller, Ph.D. will host a lecture on the topic of creative change. Feeling stuck is a pretty good indication that one might need a creative solution to solve a problem. Dr. Mueller's research shows that anyone can have a bias against creativity and not even realize it. This presentation will explain when and why such biases occur as well as identify bias warning signs and solutions to help embrace creative ideas. Mueller is a professor at University of San Diego, has a Ph.D. in Social and Developmental Psychology and author of the book Creative Change: Why We Resist It...How to Embrace It.
April 25 – Conquering Chronic Fatigue: Beyond the Basics with Dr. Heather Sandison
Join Dr. Heather Sandison as she discusses conquering chronic fatigue from a naturopathic perspective. Dr. Sandison will discuss the symptoms of chronic fatigue, causes of chronic fatigue including nutritional deficiencies, hormone disorders, toxins, and allergies as well as what one can do to test and treat. Dr. Sandison earned her doctoral degree at Bastyr University and has a thriving practice at Center for Advanced Medicine, a pioneering clinic of integrative medical practices in Encinitas. She is a member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, the California Naturopathic Doctors Association and the American Academy of Environmental Medicine.
May 2 – Decoding the Hidden Messages of Your Dreams with Dr. Patricia Ariadne
Dr. Patricia Ariadne, LMFT will lead an informative interactive workshop on dreams and dreaming. Discover how to better remember and record your dreams. Learn what certain dream symbols mean and how to create your own dream dictionary. Dr. Ariadne is a licensed psychotherapist in private practice in Encinitas. May 9 – Caregiving in the 21st Century with Taffy Cannon
Caregiving is as old as time and as new as tomorrow’s medical appointment. Come and learn how to provide necessary assistance to a loved one, and still maintain one’s own sanity through understanding what to do and setting priorities. Taffy Cannon, author SibCare: The Trip You Never Planned to Take will led this workshop by sharing her personal experiences and professional skills learned. Cannon is the Agatha and Macavity Award-nominated author of fourteen mysteries and winner of the San Diego Book Award for Best Mystery/Thriller. May 16 – Peace through Planning: How Thinking about Your Future Health Will Give You Peace of Mind with Suzan Colgan
Suzan Colgan, attorney-at-law, will discuss how planning one’s future health can provide a peace of mind and reduce stress for loved ones. Come and learn what planning can be put in place to ensure loved ones know your wishes, how to receive desired medical care, ensure that a trusted person can make decisions, and the importance of how reviewing these plans often ensures they work when needed.
