The end of the school year quickly approaches and with it, there will be many landmark celebrations. From graduations to the end of school year parties, June is a time of celebration.
Unfortunately, celebrating can also lead to an increase in underage drinking. The City of Carlsbad Police Department warns that alcohol is the leading factor in the cause of death among youths and reports an increase in underage drinking incidents during the graduation season.
“Let us all work together to prevent these joyous occasions from being marred by alcohol-related tragedies,” encourages Chief of Police Neil Gallucci.
The Police Department would also like to remind adults that providing teens with alcohol or hosting underage drinking parties is against the law. Adults who ignore these responsibilities can face mandatory fines under the Social Host Ordinance.
Gallucci adds, “One bad decision can cause a lifetime of consequences. Please make safe, alcohol-free choices this graduation season.”
