Two Arrested in Stolen Vehicle After Failing to Stop for Officers

On June 11, at 11:46 p.m., a City of Carlsbad Police Officer initiated a traffic stop in the area of Poinsettia Lane and Avenida Encinas on a 2008 Dodge Durango for a vehicle code violation.

The officer activated his overhead lights but the driver of the vehicle refused to stop and fled the area.

The officer pursued the vehicle northbound on Avenida Encinas. During the pursuit, the driver committed several dangerous moving violations including running a red light.

The driver eventually jumped out of the vehicle while it was still in motion and fled the scene on foot. The vehicle continued to move forward for a short distance before colliding with a chain-link fence in the 4900 block of Avenida Encinas.

The remaining two passengers of the vehicle, a male and female adult, were detained at the scene. Officers determined the male passenger, twenty-year-old Ruben Jimenez, was on Post Release Community Supervision pursuant to AB109 and was subsequently arrested and booked at Vista Detention Facility for violating the conditions of his supervision. The female adult was release from the scene.

Police officers, assisted by the Oceanside Police Department’s K9 Unit and the Sheriff’s ASTREA, searched the area for the driver with negative results.

The 2008 Dodge Durango was found to be stolen out of San Marcos.
