Resident Flags Officer after Running into Man Trying to Enter His House

On June 10 at 4:50 p.m., a Police Officer from the City of Carlsbad Police Department was in the 4500 block of Cove Drive investigating an unrelated incident when she was flagged down by a resident who stated he’d just interrupted a subject trying to break into his home.

The resident went on to relay that an adult male was attempting to break into his home through a window and fled after a brief physical altercation with the resident.

The male fled the area and entered a second nearby residence. Officers responded and established a perimeter around the home where the male entered and hid.  Officers searched the home and with the assistance of San Diego Sheriff’s ASTREA helicopter they located the male hiding in the attic of the residence.

The male was identified as 38-year-old Kai Sells from Carlsbad. He was arrested for a felony violation of attempted burglary, burglary and misdemeanor violation, vandalism and battery. He was subsequently booked into the Vista Detention Facility.
