CityStuff Program Accepting Volunteer Applications

The City of Carlsbad is recruiting volunteers for the next session of CityStuff, an award-winning program designed to teach third graders how local government works. Training and materials are provided. The 2018 application deadline is Jan. 26.

At a Glance

  • CityStuff volunteers present five, one hour lessons in a third-grade classroom with a sixth lesson at Carlsbad’s Council Chamber.
  • Trained volunteers use engaging, hands-on activities to teach students about local government, the important role businesses play to help a city run smoothly, as well as the history of Carlsbad, the significance of the City Seal, and the job of the Mayor and Council Members.
  • The sixth lesson is a mock City Council meeting about saving or cutting down an 80-year-old tree. Students take on the role of the Mayor, Council Members, local experts and residents.
