San Marcos Man Arrested for DUI After Collision on Faraday Avenue

On January 31, at 4:45 p.m., Officers from the City of Carlsbad Police Department responded to the area of Faraday Avenue and Whiptail Loop regarding a serious injury collision.

On arrival, Officers discovered that a grey Acura occupied by a male driver, was travelling east on Faraday Avenue when he lost control of his vehicle and swerved into oncoming westbound traffic.

The Acura then collided with a white Nissan pickup that was travelling westbound on Faraday Avenue at Whiptail Loop.

The Carlsbad Fire Department arrived and provided advanced life support to both drivers.

The driver of the Acura, a 27-year-old male from San Marcos, was flown by helicopter to an area hospital for life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Nissan pickup, a 43 year-old male from Vista, was transported to an area hospital for life threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation suggests that the driver of the Acura was attempting to pass a vehicle when he lost control and collided with oncoming traffic. Alcohol or drugs do appear to be a factor in this collision.

The driver of the Acura was positively identified as Bulmaro Garcia. He was subsequently arrested for felony driving while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

Traffic Officers responded to the scene to conduct a full investigation into the cause of the collision.
