Pedestrian Seriously Injured in Traffic Collision

On March 5, at 4:49 p.m., Officers from the City of Carlsbad Police Department responded to a serious injury collision in the area of Carlsbad Boulevard and Avenida Encinas.

On arrival, officers found that the driver of a Subaru Outback had backed into a pedestrian.

The Carlsbad Fire Department arrived and provided advanced life support to the seriously injured pedestrian.  The pedestrian was transported to an area hospital for further medical treatment.

The preliminary investigation suggests that the driver of the vehicle was backing northbound in the southbound Bike lane of Carlsbad Boulevard, just south of Avenida Encinas.  As the driver backed into the intersection of Carlsbad Boulevard and Avenida Encinas, he struck the pedestrian. 

Alcohol is not believed to be a contributing factor in the collision. 

The driver was identified as a 48-year-old male from Encinitas.  The pedestrian was identified as a 62-year-old female from Carlsbad.

Traffic Officers responded to the scene to conduct an investigation.
