Police Department Responds to Apparent Homicide/Suicide

On March 6, at 6:31 p.m., the City of Carlsbad Police Department received a 911 call from a male reporting that he was going to commit suicide in the 2500 block of Navarra Drive.  

Officers responded to the area and located a 71-year-old deceased male and a 79-year-old deceased female, both had suffered visible gunshot wounds. A handgun was recovered at the scene.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the male and female were married to each other and both suffered from medical conditions.

Both are residents of Carlsbad. Their names are being withheld pending notification of the next of kin by the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.   

There are no outstanding suspects in this investigation at this time.

Carlsbad Police Detectives responded to the scene and are continuing the investigation.
