Over the past year, the City of Carlsbad has been working on a new Arts & Culture Master Plan. The goals for the plan are to:
Identify community priorities for arts and culture over the next 10 years
Develop measurable objectives to support those priorities
Create an implementation plan that includes strategies, tactics and resources needs
“The release of the draft master plan is the culmination of a yearlong dialogue with the community about local arts and culture priorities,” said Schultz. “We are confident the final version of the plan will support the community’s vision for a thriving arts sector.”
There are three phases in the planning process for the Arts & Culture Master Plan: Discover, Envision and Develop. Through public outreach in the Discover and Envision phases of the project throughout 2017, the city gathered input from the community about specific ideas and priorities for arts and culture. These recommendations and ideas emerged as the “plan previews” of the draft Arts & Culture Master Plan and were released for public review in spring 2018. Brief surveys were included at the end of each plan preview for interested parties to provide feedback.
The major priorities identified for Carlsbad:
Create a stronger connection between arts and local business
Seek new partnerships that will expand local and regional arts & culture programs
Incorporate the arts into daily life
Ensure that community members of all ages have strong exposure to the arts
Celebrate Carlsbad’s natural and cultural resources
