Driver of Stolen Vehicle Collides with Car

On July 8 at 10:58 p.m., Officers from the City of Carlsbad Police Department attempted to stop on a stolen Acura Integra at El Camino Real and Faraday Avenue. The driver of the stolen vehicle failed to yield to officersand officers presued the vehicle.

The stolen vehicle was travelling at a high rate of speed and officers lost sight of the vehicle northbound on El Camino Real north of Cannon Road.

The driver of the stolen vehicle  lost control and collided with a BMW i3 travelling southbound on El Camino Real at Kelly Drive.

The occupants of the stolen vehicle have been identified as a 25 year-old male from Oceanside and a 43 year-old female from Poway. The driver and passenger  suffered serious injuries and were transported by the Fire Department to a local area hospital.

The driver and passenger in the BMW suffered minor injuries and have been identified as a 27-year-old female and 28-year-old male from Carlsbad.

The collision investigation is ongoing with the assistance of the California Highway Patrol.

Northbound El Camino Real from West Ranch Street to Tamarack Avenue is closed and southbound El Camino Real from Tamarack Avenue to Kelly Drive is closed. The roadway is expected to be open in a few hours.
