On March 29, at 9:45 p.m., Officers from the City of Carlsbad Police Department responded to the 2800 block of State Street regarding a motorist that struck a motorcyclist with a passenger.
On arrival, Officers found one male and one female both lying in the roadway with serious injuries. The male and female were transported by the Fire Department to a trauma hospital.
The preliminary investigation suggests that the driver of a white Mercedes attempted to make a left turn from the driveway of the Coaster Station at 2800 State St. The motorcyclist was traveling south bound on State Street and was broadsided by the driver of the Mercedes.
The collision caused the motorcyclist and passenger to be thrown from the motorcycle.
The 67-year-old, male, driver of the Mercedes was evaluated and arrested for driving under the influence. Officers suspect the 28-year-old, male, motorcyclist may also have been under the influence.
The motorcycle passenger was a 26-year-old female.
