Carlsbad City Library is celebrating kids and families this fall by participating in special programs designed to instill a lifelong love of reading, learning and imagination. Participation is free at all Carlsbad City Library locations.

Library Card Sign-Up Month
The American Library Association (ALA) and libraries nationwide are joining together to remind parents, caregivers and students that signing up for a library card is the first step towards academic achievement and lifelong learning.
Carlsbad City Library is launching new youth-specific library card designs the month of September. The cards are free for babies and children receiving their first library cards and are available at all Carlsbad City Library locations.
Baby’s First Visit to the Library
This on-going program encourages new parents to bring their baby to any Carlsbad City Library location to receive a free bag filled with information about library programs and services for all ages, a board book for their baby and facts about the importance of reading to your baby.
1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program
Carlsbad City Library is participating in the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program.
The program encourages parents and caregivers to read to preschool children, toddlers and babies in order to improve their vocabulary, listening and language skills, and increase their attention spans.

Families will receive reading incentives for reaching milestones along the way to their first 1,000 books.
