Plane Crashes on Carlsbad Beach

Carlsbad Boulevard is now open in all directions.

Both southbound lanes of Carlsbad Boulevard have been closed in order to remove the plane from the beach. It is unknown how long lanes will be closed, but they could be closed for several hours.

July 4, 2015, 4:45 p.m.

This afternoon, a single engine plane crashed on the beach between the power plant and Tamarack Avenue. The pilot was uninjured in the crash, but a bystander on the beach was transported to the hospital with injuries. The plane is still on the beach and Carlsbad Fire and Police departments have evacuated the immediate area and are coordinating with local agencies and hazardous materials team on the removal of the plane from the beach. Carlsbad Boulevard remains open to traffic.
