AGUA HEDIONDA LAGOONWelcomeAgua Hedionda Lagoon has long been a popular recreation area providing opportunities for boating, water skiing, personal watercraft (PWC), boardsailing and fishing. The lagoon was originally a salt marsh dredged to provide power plant cooling water. The City is responsible for the regulation and control of activity on the inner lagoon. Current California Boating Laws, State and City Codes are enforced by Carlsbad Police and Community Service officers. NOTE: Certain areas of the lagoon will be closed to boating to allow divers to monitor for the Caulerpa taxifoia. Areas where the divers are working will generally be indicated by large orange floats. For your safety and the safety of the divers, DO NOT ENTER the closed area. Lagoon Use PermitsIn order to operate any vessel on the lagoon, you must meet certain requirements and purchase either an annual or daily permit. Applications, requirements checklist and permits may be obtained by mail or in person at the Monroe Street Pool, 3401 Monroe St. Office hours are Monday through Friday 10:00 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. At the start of a new year, applications are mailed out to all who purchased permits the previous year. Use of Areas at Own RiskThe City does not expand its liability, if any, for accidents or injuries sustained by the public user of Agua Hedionda Lagoon, and any person using the lagoon does so at their own risk. |
