Sergeant Bruce May supervises the Professional Standards Unit, which includes Training, Backgrounds, Recruiting, and Internal Affairs. This position requires character, ethics, leadership, and professionalism. Sergeant May epitomizes all of these attributes and truly embodies the department's Mission and Values. During the three years that he has been with the Professional Standards Unit, 277 backgrounds have been conducted, 50 employees have been hired, thousands of hours of training have been provided, and more internal affairs investigations have been conducted than ever before. Sergeant May is a pleasure to work for because of his hard work ethic, his commitment to the organization, and his strong interpersonal skills. Most importantly, Sergeant May is an exceptional role model with his strong ethics and dedication. He is thoughtful in his actions, places a strong emphasis on customer service, and always does the right thing. Sergeant May also serves as a member of the hostage negotiation team, a department range master, president of the San Diego County Training Managers Association, and a department training instructor. While doing all of this he managed to further his education and complete his Master's Degree in Administration this year. Sergeant May is an exceptional employee and supervisor, and one that Carlsbad Police Department is fortunate to have. |
