2008 CIVILIAN POLICE EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR

Community Service Officer Nancy Barnes

Community Service Officer Nancy Barnes

Community Service Officer Nancy Barnes is heavily relied upon in many areas of the Investigations Division. CSO Barnes is involved in DNA and CAL-ID cases, she investigates annoying/threatening phone call cases, and she is our second-hand dealer liaison officer. In addition to those duties, CSO Barnes keeps investigations “going” by making sure everything that needs to get done administratively, gets done. CSO Barnes is a model employee, has a “can do” attitude, and strives to do her best in all that she does. She never says “no” to anyone's request for assistance.

The day ends for CSO Barnes when the work is done, not when it stops being convenient. When there is evidence to process, CSO Barnes volunteers to help. When there is a homicide, CSO Barnes comes. An example of CSO Barnes dedication to the department was exhibited during the recent fires. Even though CSO Barnes was herself evacuated from her home as a result of the fires, she faithfully showed up for duty every day, put on her uniform and was “out on the front” assisting with our fire watch and evacuation efforts in the La Costa area. CSO Barnes has also assisted in several surveillance details, being eyes and ears for the team and being the detail scribe regarding the comings and goings of subjects of interest.

CSO Barnes is the example for others to follow. She has become an indispensable part of the investigations team, and her nomination is strongly supported by all her co-workers.
