Explorer PostThe Carlsbad Police Explorer Post 781 is a Learning for Life program for young men and women ages 14 to 21 interested in learning about careers in the field of Law enforcement.

Requirements:
  • Must maintain good standing in school with at least a 2.0 GPA
  • Must have good standing at home and in community
  • Must not have misdemeanor or felony criminal history
  • Able to donate on average 16 hours a month
  • Must complete one phase of the Explorer Academy within first year
  • Must attend three meeting prior to application
  • Must pass oral board and background investigation
Explorer's duties:
  • Assist with traffic control at accident and crime scenes as well as at special events
  • Work most City of Carlsbad special events and large events throughout the County of San Diego
  • Guide tours of the police station
  • Go on regular ride alongs with patrol officers
  • Attend meetings and training sessions
Explorer training:
  • Must attend the first phase of the Explorer Academy within first year
  • Bi-monthly 2 hour meetings which consist of training classes in all areas of law enforcement, drill and physical fitness
  • Must pass field training phase and minimal standard tests

The Explorer program essentially is an internship for Law Enforcement. Young men and women who commit themselves to this program provide themselves with an advantage of experience and training, which could propel them into a rewarding and honorable career.
