Public Works

Public Works is responsible for a variety of behind the scenes services that keep our city running smoothly. We are "At Your Service" and committed to providing top quality service to the Carlsbad community. We are responsible for the design, construction, operation and maintenance of all public infrastructure, including:

• Design and construction of new roads
• Operation and maintenance of sewer and water pipelines
• Repair and upkeep of parks, athletic fields and medians
• Design and programming of traffic signals
• Maintenance of City buildings and vehicles
• Replacement of street lights and pothole repair

Public Works is divided into three departments - Engineering, General Services and Maintenance & Operations:

Engineering | The Engineering Department prepares and processes design and construction documents for the Capital Improvement Program, which it also builds. The department maintains bonds, agreements and permits associated with Private Development and provides construction management and inspection services for a variety of projects.

General Services | General Services is responsible for the maintenance and repair of parks, athletic fields, city buildings and vehicles, public trees and medians.

Maintenance & Operations | Maintenance & Operations is responsible for the maintenance, repair and operation of city streets and water and sanitation systems. This department also manages the City's environmental programs including solid waste disposal, recycling and storm water protection.
