New and Improved Senior CenterThe Carlsbad Senior Center recently completed an improvement project within the area formerly owned by the Carlsbad Unified School District. With the new Pine Avenue Park adjacent to the Senior Center, the community now has a safe, multi-generational place to gather that is filled with amenities designed to nurture fun, fitness and friendships.

The project area encompassed a total of 14,245 square feet - 8,475 first floor and 5,770 second floor. The first floor is designed to augment current senior activities. The second floor is the new home of the recreation department's administration offices, previously located at City Hall.

"The Senior Center will be better than ever!" comments Gail Lynn, the Recreation Services Manager who oversees the Senior Center. "Thanks to the expansion, we are able to continue providing top quality services to our senior population with the amenities they most desire, while also meeting the changing needs of our community."

The Senior Center expansion includes areas "just for fun," such as the Game Room - equipped with cards, chess and other board games - and the "clean" art room, designed for classes and special interest groups to meet. A multi-purpose Activity Room will host a variety of events, from dances, to classes, to socials and seminars, and is available for private event rentals.

Pool at the Senior CenterThe 1202-square foot fitness room features treadmills, bikes, free weights and circuit training machines, and will host several classes. Private office areas provide a number of health screening opportunities, as well as legal and tax preparation services.

Visitors can keep up with the latest technology in the computer room, featuring an interactive white board, twelve up-to-date computer stations and printers that will be available for classes and open lab use. The former computer lab will be transformed into an information center packed with resources on topics ranging from assisted living to healthy lifestyles and more.

Even more than before, the Senior Center will become a place for neighbors and friends to meet. A casual lunch area is positioned between the Activity Room and other new rooms - a perfect vantage point for experiencing for all the new classes and activities, or just to drop by for a chat.

"You could easily spend the day here with all the new rooms and activities," observes Lynn. "Come work out in the morning, take a class, stay for lunch and meet a friend over a game in the afternoon. Living well, learning and laughter - it's what we're all about."
