GUIDE TO UNDERSTANDING REDEVELOPMENT IN CARLSBAD
Introduction
This informational guide has been developed to assist citizens in understanding the purpose of redevelopment, the role it plays in revitalizing the downtown area and the benefits of redevelopment to the entire City of Carlsbad. The guide is intended to provide a brief summary. If you would like additional information regarding redevelopment in general or activities in the Carlsbad Village Redevelopment Project Area, please contact the Carlsbad Housing and Redevelopment Department at (760) 434-2811.
What is Redevelopment?
Redevelopment is a process created by State Law to assist city and county governments in eliminating blight and blighting influences from a designated area, and to achieve desired development, reconstruction and rehabilitation including but not limited to: residential, commercial, industrial and retail.
Redevelopment is very often one of the most effective ways to breathe new life into deteriorated areas. Through redevelopment, a project area can receive focused attention and financial investment to hopefully reverse deteriorating trends, create jobs, revitalize the business climate, rehabilitate and add to the housing stock, and gain active participation and investment by citizens which would not otherwise occur.
