Welcome to the Building Division
The question is sometimes asked: "What does the Building Division do for the City?" This Division was established to protect those who live and work in Carlsbad by enforcing the standards of building and safety put forth in the state Building Codes and various municipal codes and policies.
Whatever the size of the building project, staff is ready to provide support during every phase of the building permit process, from Monday through Friday at the City's offices on Faraday, on the phone or through email. Most initial building plan check comments are provided to the applicant within 10-12 working days and resubmittals within 5-7 working days, although the final Fire Department approval may take a little longer.
