Land Development Engineering works to ensure that new development built in the City of Carlsbad complies with the high standards that Carlsbad residents have come to expect. During discretionary review, Land Development Engineering staff confers with the Transportation and Utilities departments, and coordinates with other Community & Economic Development divisions to make sure that utility needs, traffic systems, maintenance/operational issues and storm water requirements are all addressed in the project design. Once the project has received discretionary approval, Land Development Engineering provides planchecking of the grading plans, improvement plans, subdivision maps, and reports and studies. Land Development Engineering is at the forefront of implementing regional storm water regulations, and serves as a resource to other divisions and departments on storm water, floodplain, and engineering standards issues. The engineering technicians, jointly managed by Development Services and Land Development Engineering, review building and administrative permits for engineering issues.
