Envision Carlsbad is a city-sponsored program that invites community members to work together to create a vision and a plan for Carlsbad’s future.

Envisioning an ideal future for Carlsbad 

In 2009, as part of Envision Carlsbad Phase 1, community members worked with their neighbors and shared their ideas about Carlsbad's future by participating in a citywide survey, community workshops, and stakeholder interviews.  Community members were asked to identify the qualities of a city that are most important to their lives and whether Carlsbad has all the qualities they want, and they were asked to establish priorities, such as family supporting jobs, a clean environment, safe streets, high-quality schools, parks and open spaces.  All of the community’s input from the Envision Carlsbad Phase 1 survey, community workshops, and stakeholder interviews was combined to create the Carlsbad Community Vision, which was accepted by the City Council in January 2010.  The city is now working on Envision Carlsbad Phase 2, the objective of which is to align the policies and regulations of the General Plan, Local Coastal Program, and Zoning Ordinance with the Carlsbad Community Vision.

How does Envision Carlsbad work?

Now that the Carlsbad Community Vision has been identified and accepted by the City Council, it will be used to guide city leaders in making the right decisions to fulfill that vision. During the Envision Carlsbad Phase 2 (updating the General Plan, Local Coastal Program, and Zoning Ordinance), community members will be provided with a variety of opportunities to assist the city in identifying the preferred strategies and approaches to implementing the vision.

All are invited to contribute their ideas

There are important ways all members of the community can contribute to this process, no matter how much time they have to spare. During Envision Carlsbad Phase 2, the city will provide the community with various opportunities to participate in the process.
