TGIF Jazz

Summer in the city means TGIF Jazz in the Parks, a tradition that has truly become an integral part of the community's life.

Since 1986, the City of Carlsbad's Cultural Arts Office has been presenting free jazz concerts in the city's parks during the summer. In 1986, there were four concerts, with about 150 people at each concert. Now each concert attendance reaches approximately 4,000 people.

Concerts take place on Friday evenings, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and begin in late June and run through the summer. The schedule of parks and bands is usually posted on the Web site by mid-May.

At each TGIF Jazz concert, the Carlsbad Friends of the Arts (a non-profit group that supports the program and activities of the city’s Cultural Arts Office) conducts an opportunity drawing. Great prizes available because of the generosity of the local business community. Taking place at intermission, the drawings have become an integral and highly anticipated part of the whole evening’s experience and fun.

Opportunity drawings are the primary vehicle used by the Friends to raise money for Cultural Arts Office programs such as these TGIF concerts, the award-winning Three-Part-Art education program for third-and fourth graders, and much more.

But the Carlsbad Friends of the Arts need help at each concert. From selling the Opportunity Drawing tickets in the audience to selling tee shirts at the booth to recruiting new members…

The Carlsbad Friends of the Arts provides many opportunities to volunteer. It's fun! Join in!
