Summer Arts Camps

Summer Arts Camps 2013

The Cultural Arts Office offers children a variety of summer arts camp experiences including Creative Arts Camp and Club Pelican. All camps are staffed by professional artists and/or educators, a camp aide and many energetic and talented volunteers. These camps are offered to children ages 7 to 12 years old. Camp brochures with full descriptions and registration forms are usually available at the Cultural Arts Office, and other city locations by late March.

Please note the new registration process below...

At Club Pelican, science and art unite in one amazing camp! The Batiquitos Lagoon is the “natural” location for this unique camp in which campers learn first-hand the wonders of nature. Guided by an experienced Naturalist, campers will hike the lagoon’s trails to explore the animal habitats, native birds and plants, insects and geology that reside there. Next, finding inspiration in the natural wonders they observed, campers will paint, draw, construct, and create artworks of all kind. This fun-filled—and very popular—camp is held in partnership with the Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation.

Instructors

    • Tami Noorzay, visual arts (ages 7 to 9)
    • Nicole Nelson, visual arts (ages 9 to 12)
    • Karen Hoyle, naturalist (all sessions)

Location

Club Pelican is held at the Batiquitos Nature Center located off of Gabbiano Lane, Carlsbad.

Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis and is limited to 30 students per session. Due to the popularity of our program, we only allow one camp session per camper.

    • July 8 to 12
    • July 29 to Aug. 2

Mondays through Fridays, July 15 through 26
9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Ages 9 to 12
Fee: $270

This two-week camp emphasizes a collaboration of the visual arts and theatre. Campers will work with a visual artist to experiment with a wide range of media, including painting, drawing, sculptural design, textiles and more! The theatre instructor will lead children through a series of performance activities and exercises. We’ll venture into theatre games and participate in improvisation, basic script writing and movement. All activities are designed to promote self-confidence and personal expression.

On Friday, July 26 the session will culminate in a performance with campers showcasing their completed works of art. Parents and family members are invited.

Instructors: Visual Arts, Tami Noorzay; Theatre, Heather Rushworth

Location: Creative Arts Camp is held at the Carlsbad City Library complex, 1775 Dove Lane, Carlsbad, 92011.

Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis and is limited to 36 students.
