Life Sciences Incubator

Bio, Tech and Beyond is a life sciences community innovation space in Carlsbad. Located at the center of the city’s business hub, the incubator offers affordable laboratory space and supports scientists and life science startups with a team of research and business experts to mentor them, with the goal of launching eight startups in the first two years. The incubator will also conduct at least four science classes and events a year for the entire community. The incubator’s goal is to be self-sufficient through membership fees, corporate sponsorships, crowdfunding and community support.  Bio, Tech and Beyond, the world’s largest garage lab for life sciences research, will strengthen Carlsbad’s life sciences community and encourage even more innovation in the industry. For more information, visit www.biotechnbeyond.com.

Why did the City of Carlsbad decide to help launch Bio, Tech and Beyond?

The city is committed to supporting Carlsbad’s thriving biotech industry, as well as science-based education and the creation of local jobs. The city previously issued two requests for proposals to establish an incubator in an underutilized building owned by the city before receiving a proposal from Bio, Tech and Beyond. The current team was selected for this project and in January 2013 the City Council approved a lease of $1 a year for five years to allow Bio, Tech and Beyond to develop the incubator that will serve our community through educational programs, growing life sciences jobs and companies and strengthening Carlsbad as a life sciences hub in Southern California.
