Meaning of Watch and Warning
Watch: A "watch" defines an area where a weather hazard, such as a tornado or severe storm, is possible in the next several hours. It does not mean the weather hazard is imminent -- just that the public should be alert, and to be prepared to go to safe shelter. This is the time to turn on local TV or radio, turn on and set the alarm switch on a weather radio, make sure there is ready access to safe shelter, and make friends and family aware of the potential for the severe weather in the area.
Warning. A "warning" means that a weather hazard, such as a tornado or severe storm, is imminent. When a warning is issued, take immediate safety precautions.
