Engineering
The Engineering Department provides a wide variety of engineering services to the community through its five divisions as follows:
Planning and Programs
Prepares the city’s Capital Improvement Program; updates facility impact fee programs; assists with the formation of public improvement finance districts; administers and coordinates activities for beach erosion, lagoon restoration, growth management monitoring, and public works asset management program.
Development Service
Provides engineering input for Building and Development applications; reviews and approves grading, storm water and improvement plans, reviews and approves maps, plats and easements; issues grading, right-of-way and haul route permits; responds to customer inquiries; and implements facility impact fee programs.
Design
Implement plans, designs and manages City Capital Improvement Program projects; performs underground facility mark-outs; prepares master plans; conducts special studies and investigations; applies for grants and loans; and assists with water resource development.
Construction Management and Inspection
Performs construction management and inspection for capital improvement projects and private developments; ensures construction of high-quality public improvements; and minimizes inconvenience to the public while ensuring safe work sites.
Transportation
Reviews and resolves a wide variety of traffic and transportation issues, complaints, and inquiries; maintains records of collision reports, speed surveys, and traffic counts; and assists in maintaining optimum traffic signal operations and efficient traffic flow.
