A lighting and landscaping district levies a special assessment that can pay for the installation and maintenance of items including, but not limited to, the following:

• Landscaping
• Public lighting
• Sidewalks, curbs, and gutters
• Park improvements

A lighting and landscaping district is authorized by the California streets and highways code division 15, part 2, section 22500 et seq. entitled Landscaping and Lighting Act of 1972.

• Lighting and Landscaping District No. 1 Zone – Medians
• Lighting and Landscaping District No. 1 Zone – Street Trees
• Lighting and Landscaping District No. 1 Zone – Street Lights
• Lighting and Landscaping District No. 2 

City of Carlsbad residents could reside in none, some, or all of the Lighting and Landscaping District No. 1 zones.  Residents who reside in Lighting and Landscaping District No. 2 do not reside in any LLD No. 1 zones and, therefore, will not be subject to the special assessments of LLD No. 1.
