We Will Never Forget
On September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks were carried out on the USA.
In total, four planes were hijacked: American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175 were flown into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York; American Airlines Flight 75 crashed on the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.; and United Airlines Flight 93 crashed in Somerset County, some 210 km southeast of Pittsburgh, Penn.
A total of 2,750 people were killed in New York, 184 at the Pentagon, and 40 in Pennsylvania.
The loss of life for firefighters was the largest in recorded history with 343 killed in the line of duty on that day.
The Carlsbad Fire Department conducts a September 11 memorial at Fire Station 5 each year to remember all those that lost their lives and show respect to the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on that day.
