Here is information for current tutors and learners in the program.

In addition to one-to-one tutoring, Literacy Services also offers small group classes on a variety of subjects. Examples of class topics include: 

  • Banking
  • Computer classes
  • Map reading
  • Book club
  • Resume writing
  • Reading medicine labels
  • Writing and communication

Not all classes are offered at the same time. Please contact a staff member to sign up for a class.

Saying No by Kita-Bradley. A good book about how to manage your time. Easy to read.

Junkyard Dan series by Leonard. A good series about a man who starts his life over. He buys a junkyard and solves mysteries about things that he finds out about the cars. 

Jane Eyre by Brontë, adapted by Gerver. This book is easier to read than the original book. It is a great mystery and love story.

New Resources are available at the Learning Center.  Look for these in the Literacy Collection area.

Junkyard Dan by Elise Leonard (Fiction Leonard). This is a set of 10 mystery books featuring Dan, who works in a junkyard. He finds all sorts of interesting things in cars and works to solve mysteries.

Three Cups of Tea (371.822 Mor or 371.822 Tho). One of these copies is the young reader's edition. The true story of a man who gets lost while hiking K2 and stumbles into a poor town in Pakistan. The people of the village nurse him back to health, and to repay them for their kindness he vows to come back and build a school. This is the story of how he did just that despite death threats, a kidnapping, and more.

Well Said:  Pronunciation for Clear Communication by Linda Grant (428.34 Gra). Offers a lively and communicative approach for increasing pronunciation and speaking skills.

You Gotta BE the Book by Jeffrey D. Wilhelm (TM 428.4 Wil).  Based on years of research, this new edition provides extensive activities on how to engage reluctant readers.

I Read It, But I Don't Get It by Cris Tovani (TM 428.43 Tov). Comprehension for adolescent readers.

Playaway of The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton (Plyr Hinton). This is an audiobook that is pre-loaded and portable, and tells the story of friendship and belonging.
