We are currently looking for talented teens to be a part of the 2013 Teen Scene. We are recruiting bands, film makers and artists. Click on the tabs for each category for deadline information and rules.
Everyone is welcome to join in this night of creative expression by teens. The main event will include ten teen bands battling it out for the title of "Carlsbad 2013 Battle of the Bands Champion." Bands are judged by professionals in the music industry on stage presence, vocal ability, instrumental talents, originality, and crowd response. Other activities include dancing, video games, an art exhibit, a film festival, board games, slam boards, and more.
Check out the cool art exhibit and film festival showcasing art pieces created by teens. Create original art on the slam boards, or play video games in luxury in the Gametruck where there will be four video game units with a variety of games. Find your groove in the dance room or just hang at the main attraction featuring teen bands battling it out for the title of 2013 Carlsbad Battle of the Bands Champions.
Food, beverages, merchandise, and raffle tickets are available for an additional cost.

The Competition
Ten teen bands go head to head competing for the title of 2013 Carlsbad Battle of the Bands Champion along with a one day recording session in Hurley’s professional recording studio, Big Bear Mountain Resort ski lift tickets, paid gigs with the Rock the Library Concert series, and much more. Crowd response is 20% of the bands’ points in this competition so make sure to rock out and cheer on your favorite band.

Film Festival
Check out these cool flicks. The film festival features 5 minute shorts from local teens. Who will be the next George Lucas or James Cameron?
Films will be played at 5:20 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Calling all teen directors
The 10th Annual Teen Scene is hosted by the City of Carlsbad and is an awesome evening for you to show off directorial talents. We need talented teen directors to show off their work at the film festival portion of Teen Scene 2013 on Jan. 26. Your film will be shown at 5:20 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Short films (5 minute maximum length) must be created, produced, directed and edited by teens and you can choose any subject matter (but all films will be pre-screened for appropriateness). Twelve films max, so get yours in early!!
Entry Rules
· Entry is free – Fill out a “Call for Entries” application for each submission.
· You may enter up to three films.
· No one over 19 can enter.
· Actors can be over 19 but all other components involved in creating the
film must be done by teens 19 or younger.
· The completed application and a DVD of your film must be received by Jan. 18.
· Mail your DVDs to (or drop off between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through

Art Cafe
Kick back with your friends in the art café where we will be displaying art pieces from local teens. Leave your creation on the slam boards, play board games, or just hang out and talk.
Dance Room
The Dance Room will be rocking all night with special performances throughout the evening by teens from the Carlsbad Dance Company. Learn new moves at the 15 minute dance clinics at 6:15 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. in the Dance Room.
Video Game Experience

The 8th Annual Teen Scene is hosted by the City of Carlsbad and is an awesome evening for you to show off your art. Any art medium is welcome -- paintings, drawings, ceramics, photos or whatever else you have created -- as long as it’s original!
We’d love to see your original artwork and invite you to exhibit it at the Art Gallery on Teen Scene night, Jan. 26, 2013, at Calavera Hills Community Center located at 2997 Glasgow Drive. This is a great opportunity to show off your talent.
Entry rules

and provide a digital proof.*
· No one over 19 can enter.
· Artwork will be displayed “as is”: You are responsible for framing and matting.
· Artwork can be dropped off at Calavera Community Center between 8 a.m.
and 8 p.m. through Jan. 18.
· Artwork must be picked up within the week following the Jan. 26 event at
the same location.
· Enter any type of artwork as long as it's original and suitable for public viewing.
